, i am tori campbell. the oakland police department graduate its first academy of police officers in 4 years today, brian flores is live in oakland to explain how this may make the streets safer. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon, the goal certainly is to make the streets safer in oakland. as you mentioned the first graduating class since november of 2008, not only a big day for them but also for the families who have sacrificed so much. this is the city's 166th police academy class, 38 officers graduated today, including two from vallejo, the class marks the first of many things, for one the first class under police chief howard jordan and mayor jean kwan and the first diverse class in its history, out of the graduating class 11 different language including those. the chief says it marks a turning point for them and this new class is meant to do that, and he hopes that. he does say this class has boosted the department's morale. >> for the last six months the president of this academy has done that he has given us a sense of hope, pride and honor to see the transformation f

'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. it's monday, march 18th. >>> in overnight news -- police in alameda are investigating a bar stabbing at a st. patrick's day party. it happened at scobies on central avenue. tara moriarty has been covering this story for the past two hours. what have you learned? >> reporter: well, the partying turned into fighting here. if we pan over here to the right, you can see there is a section cordoned off. the fight moved over next to that doctor's office where the cop car is sitting out front. right now we have a crew on scene. they have finally arrived to clean up the scene. there's still blood outside. the fight broke out at scobies and park. there were two to three people in a heated argument with two or three others and someone pulled a knife, we believe, and slashed the victim's throat. the victim's condition was hushed to the hospital -- rushed to the hospital. his condition unknown. the suspect took off in a dark vehicle. investigators will be looking at surveillance video, they will be interviewing the bartender to get a better id
'm tori campbell. it is thursday march 21st . an elderly woman is in the hospital after she and her husband were run over by a truck. tara is live where the crash happened. >> reporter: good morning. that woman is in critical condition fighting for her life. getting an idea how busy this intersection can be. this is where it happened in one of these four crosswalks right here. it's very busy. muni comes through here . it looked like this last night although obviously darker and a lot more fog. it was pretty dense and authorities say that is what contributed toward the accident. happened off west portal avenue at 9:40 last night. a pick-up truck hit an elderly couple. the man was okay, his wife was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. in the fog, they want to remind folks to drive slowly. but despite the fog, people say drivers simply need to slow down. >> i'm really worried about this intersection right here cause i go over here everyday. i'm afraid everybody's trying to get through the light. i'm afraid i'm going to get hit right here. >> doesn't surprise you? >> no, not a

an apparent murder- suicide. as kyla campbell reports from our washington, d.c. newsroom the base commander says the gunman killed a pan and woman. >> reporter: the shooters first victim was found around 7:30 pacific last night. authorities then found the shooter and a woman he killed in the same building. right now authorities are not releasing a possible motive or the names of those killed. the base commander tells us all three worked at the officer cadet school. all other marines on base and their family members have been accounted for. he says they have chaplains providing counseling for people who work and live at quantico. >> we're taking care of the well being of the marines and the families aboard quantico who have been effected by this loss and tragedy. >> reporter: he talk the about what a rough week it has been for marines. on monday seven marines were killed in an explosion in nevada. we'll have more on this latest tragedy when see you. >>> 6:17. a stopgap spending bill to keep the government running is heading to president obama's desk for his signature. the house of representa
fire last night killing two other marines and himself. kyla camp sell belle is in -- campbell is in our washington, d.c. area. >> reporter: he killed a man and woman before taking his own life. the first 911 call came in around 7:30 pacific last night. authorities say an active duty marine shot and killed two others before he shot himself. all three marines were permanent personnel assigned to officer candidate school. since the murder-suicide all the other marines on base and family members have been accounted for. the commander choked up at times during the press conference last hour. he talked about his priority to take care of the marines and families on the quantico base who are dealing with this tragedy. >> i also ask for the support of our neighbors, the community, and their thoughts and prayers as well. for our marines who have lost their comrades in arms. thank you. >> reporter: he says he doesn't expect to release the names of the three marines killed for at least another 24 hours or at least until the primary next of kin is notif
